Teito Klein is a student at the Barsburg Empire's Military Academy, known for producing elite soldiers who utilize an ability called "Zaiphon" in combat. As a sklave with no memories of his past, Teito faces ridicule from his peers, but finds an ally in Mikage, a fellow student. During the final exam preparations, Teito discovers a dark secret related to his past, which is connected to Ayanami, a high-ranking official responsible for his father's death. After an assassination attempt against Ayanami fails, Teito is detained, but manages to escape with Mikage's help and finds refuge with the bishops at the 7th District Church.
