Kagome Higurashi, a 15-year-old girl from modern times, is pulled into the past to Japan's Sengoku period when a demon drags her into her family's Shinto shrine's well. Inside the well, she finds herself 500 years back in time, with the demon's target, the Shikon Jewel, now residing within her. The jewel's power is accidentally released after a battle with a revived demon, causing it to shatter into many pieces. Kagome teams up with Inuyasha, a half-demon, to retrieve the pieces before they fall into the wrong hands, joined by other allies like Shippo, Miroku, and Sango.
