Maomao, the daughter of an apothecary, is taken from her quiet life and sold to the imperial court, where she becomes a maid. She conceals her knowledge of medicine to avoid drawing attention. The emperor's children start falling ill, and Maomao figures out the cause of their condition. To stay under the radar, she tries to submit a tip anonymously, but the perceptive eunuch Jinshi discovers her involvement.
