Yuuya Sakaki is the son of Yuusho Sakaki, the founder of You Show Duel School in Miami City. Yuusho's emphasis on Entertainment Dueling, where duels are used to bring people together rather than as tools of war, has had a lasting impact on the dueling community. However, Yuusho's sudden disappearance from a duel with Strong Ishijima, the Action Duel champion, has left a lasting scar on Yuuya. Years later, Yuuya discovers his ability to perform a Pendulum Summon, a previously unknown technique, after his desperation to win a duel brings forth a miraculous outcome.
